Sophia Ioannou Gjerding

Sophia Ioannou Gjerding is an artist currently living in Aarhus, Denmark. Her artistic practice involves installation, film, animation, sculpture, sound and text. Through these mediums, she strives to understand contemporary cultural image production and how recent imaging technology creates new visual perspectives and spatial dimensions. At COMA, she worked with sound, video and 3D-printing as well as photogrammetry--a method that makes it possible to obtain three-dimensional information from photographs.

Her work explored the invisible, unhearable and untouchable through various techniques such as 3D printing, animation, sound and photogrammetry, aiming to investigate the status of representation as well as contemporary image regimes and culminated in a final showcase I Heard a Moth Flap at the End of a Track, a multisensoric installation comprised of sculptures, soundscapes and film material
